Transition to adapted land management following rewetting: the Palu funding programme

Online seminar organised by the Kompetenzzentrum Natürlicher Klimaschutz (KNK)

The seminar is part of the online series ‘Action Programme for Natural Climate Protection – Knowledge. Practice. Funding.’

Contents

“In this online seminar, we will introduce you to the ANK Palu funding programme: ‘Measures for the permanent and extensive rewetting of agricultural and forestry-used peat soils and for supporting the agricultural and forestry use of rewetted peat soil areas’. It is implemented and managed by the Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank.

The ANK Palu funding programme supports the rewetting of agricultural and forestry-used peat soils throughout Germany, as well as their subsequent management adapted to high water levels. The aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enable the long-term sustainable use of rewetted peatland areas.

During the seminar, Samantha Faber and Elisabeth Ebert from the Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank will present the funding opportunities available under Module 4: ‘Measures to support the agricultural and forestry use of peatland areas following successful rewetting’. The focus will be, amongst other things, on investments in engines, technical and structural infrastructure, as well as the processing, storage and marketing of products from peatland-friendly farming practices. The speakers will be available afterwards to answer your questions.

Anke Nordt, head of the Paludi MV pilot project, demonstrates how wetland management works in practice. The project is conducting large-scale trials of wet grassland management and the cropping of paludiculture crops such as cattails, reeds and cultivated grasses under real-world conditions. In the process, practical experience is being gathered on the management of wet peat soils and the regulation of near-surface water levels, and this is being put to practical use. The Zukunft-Umwelt-Gesellschaft (ZUG) is supporting the project as the project sponsor.” Source: KNK
